Mercer Summer Campus
Camp Thunderhead

2017 Camp Thunderhead

Nativity Jesuit’s rigorous five-week, residential, academic summer program is situated in the beauty of Wisconsin’s great Northwoods in Mercer, Wisconsin. Our third semester of the school year helps to eliminate the “summer slide” in learning that is common for urban students. Camp Thunderhead is a unique student experience because:

  • It forms teamwork, fosters leadership, builds community, and supports faith development.
  • Students and staff pray together, share reflections, and celebrate mass.
  • Daily classes are given in math, language arts and natural sciences.
  • Students take daily reading tests online in the Nativity Accelerated Reading Program (NARP).
  • Activities include swimming, boating, fishing, water-skiing, biking, basketball, soccer, volleyball, hiking and woodworking.
  • Campers live in mixed grade level cabins with counselor supervision.
  • Nutritious meals are eaten together “family style.”
  • Daily “deck meetings”, reflections during breakfast and lunch and cabin checks in the evening foster character growth and faith formation

Now Recruiting: Camp Counselors

Camp Thunderhead would not be possible without its dedicated staff members. Counselors serve an important role by caring for Nativity Jesuit students and running activities while developing their own leadership and teaching skills. This fun and rewarding summer job opportunity is available for men and women who have completed at least one year of college and who are capable and interested in working with young people.

The time commitment is June 18 – July 27, 2018 and counselors receive room, board, and a stipend for their work. Please see the “Camp Thunderhead Staff or Teacher” position description on our Employment Opportunities page for more information.
